Background:
A combination of consumer demand and the clients desire to meet consumer demand, the company undertook a major reorganization to align themselves as a leader in the education technology industry. As part of this shift, the client was researching the feasibility of utilizing digital devices, such as laptops, iPads and tablets for classroom assessment testing. I was brought in to coordinate the studies and provide project management support.
Challenge:
There were many unknowns in regards to how students interact with the digital devices and platforms. Project Management support was requested to support the Director of research services by managing the scope, schedule, and student recruitment. The approach of a usability labs gives the client direct feedback from students on what is and what is not effective. Watching students use the technology is invalauable, and the labs will allow the client to receive information that would otherwise be unreachable.
Strategy:
Develop project charter, action plan, schedule, and recruitment strategies. Track project status on design modifications. Deliver usability findings and recommendations to UX design team for the client’s assessment delivery platform.
Result:
Held four usuability studies over a four month time period, each focused on a different aspect on the usability of the assessment delivered via digital device. Delivered findings and recommendations to UX design team and program team after each study, and presented overall recommendations and lessons learned to program team upon close phase. Managed to keep project in scope, on schedule, and in budget.
