VisualHouse is a video and multimedia production company based out of West Des Moines, Iowa, specializing in delivering HD content for multiple mediums. Broke, Busted, & Disgusted is a pro-education documentary that will examine the economics (and repercussions) of student loans.

The mission of the Broke, Busted, & Disgusted (BBD) film is to educate future students to make wise financial decisions, and empower them to choose the path that will lead them to serve their life’s mission, instead of serving their debts. To create conscious decision making among students, to positively impact their financial future, and avoid blindly signing on the dotted line.

The Challenge:

  • Lacked an effective system of communication that allowed team members to collaborate virtually.
  • Inadequate resources to manage expanded team that grew from 4 to 8 to manage marketing, social media, and public relations.
  • Team members were unsure of specific roles and responsibilities and were uncertain of what goals to focus on or where to begin.

The Strategy:

Increase communication and autonomy in order to meet the goal of raising $65,000 on IndieGoGo. To do so, systems need to be put in place that would create an emphasis on information sharing and collaboration across the team of 8. A project plan detailing scope, schedule, and actions located in a central area is also needed.

The Result:

  • Increased team accountability, transparency and collaboration through a cloud based document repository and priority board, accessible 24/7 by all team members.
  • Eliminated confusion of roles and responsibilities across team members by implementing a ‘priority board,’ scheduling one-on-one’s with team members, and weekly team meetings to review plans and priorities.
  • Organized cloud-based Document Repository to increase collaboration and transparency.
  • In addition, individually raised donations of $270 USD to go towards campaigns goal of $65,000. Campaign Results: Raised $66,719 USD from 448 funders, exceeding campaign goal at 103%.

Feedback:

  • “I learned so much from your project management style and have improved on my organization and tasks already, secretly taking tips from you has helped.“ -Molly Rose Daly, BBD Marketing Lead
  • “I thought you had just the right amount of follow up with the team and myself, not to much, not to little and you always followed through and got answers to everything that was brought up,” -Molly Rose Daly, BBD Marketing Lead
