Health and wellness for people of all ages continues to become a topic of concern as health insurance costs rise, and health issues directly related to obesity become more common. Increases in technological advances make working from any location, at any time, more accessible, increasing the number of hours in an average work day. An increase in workload can, under certain circumstances, make less time for personal time. As an employer of thousands of employees all over the world, Pearson carries a strong influence over the importance of work and life balance, and has continued to show a commitment to work-life balance and living happy, healthy lives. There are a myriad of benefits that come with the introduction of an onsite fitness class such as yoga. These potential benefits include increased employee satisfaction, a reduction in stress levels, and may decrease the number of sick days due to illness. Other benefits include increased flexibility, greater employee comradery, and an overall happier, healthier workplace. These benefits can be measured using a new tool provided by Pearson Benefits, the Online Health and Wellbeing Assessment, which will be available to Pearson employees across 59 countries, to provide a comprehensive and holistic wellbeing report. This Assessment will be available to employees by the end of summer 2013. The information in this report is published only to the owner, however, the wellness team will ask participants to take the assessment at the beginning and at the end of their yoga participation, and ask them to include their related metrics at the beginning and end of the class, to measure if there was a change in level of health and/or wellbeing. The use of this assessment allows the Wellness team to incorporate Efficacy into this initiative.

The introduction of an on-site yoga class will align with Pearson’s strategy to become a company of health and wellbeing. Through the incorporation of the Efficacy Framework, we can provide intended outcomes as well as evidence of those outcomes.
